California Poppy, (Eschscholtzia californica)
This showy poppy is the state flower of California
and is distributed over much of Californias open
grassland. It was named after Dr. J.F. Eschscholtz
a surgeon & naturalist with the Russian expeditions
to the Pacific coast of North America in 1816 & 1824.
