Loretta and I have been married for over 44 years. Our family consists of two sons and three grandchildren. When our sons were young we wandered the west in our camper with our boys lying on the upper bunk watching the changing scenery. They traveled with us on our photo safaris and learned to experience the value of wilderness and wildlife. Though they are not directly involved with photography the lessons they experienced were not lost in their growing up years. Our oldest son now manages the lighting and sound at Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, CA. Our youngest is heavily involved in computers.

The natural world holds a treasure of new and wonderful experiences, ones we love to explore. When Spring arrives there is the treasure of young animals, and birds chirping for food. The Summer is alive with flowers and people experiencing the world they live in. Fall is the season for elk bugling in the forest and salmon turning red on their silent last swim, or listening for the call of the geese searching for a resting place. Winter blankets the earth and for some, is a time of rest.

In the middle sixties we began blending our love of nature with our individual writing skills and photographic talents. We started with an 8mm movie camera and progressed into 35mm still photography and writing. Our tools are Nikon cameras and lenses ranging from 20mm to 500mmED along with dedicated macro lenses for extreme closeup photos. Also, we use a pin registered camera for precision alignment of multimedia overlaps. We have two PC computers, a Nikon LS-1000 slide scanner and a flat bed scanner. Adobe Photoshop 5 is our main photo program along with half a dozen other programs to compliment our software library.

We take pictures that are alike in structure and view, hence our copyright reads © Phil & Loretta Hermann. Our photography has been in magazines such as National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, National Geographic's World Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Americana, Chevron USA, Petersen's PhotoGraphic, Nature Conservancy, Garden Magazine, National Motorist, and Audubon Society field guides. Many of our photographs appear in school books, reference books, encyclopedias, and photo books, such as Colors in the Wild by the National Wildlife Federation and The Wonder of Birds by National Geographic. Our photographic images have also appeared on calenders, posters and greeting cards.

We have written articles for Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Cats Pride, Ranger Rick, Popular Photography, The Weekender, and many articles for the local newspaper. Over the years we have assembled many Christian related multi-projector slide and audio programs and have shown them to audiences of twenty to over a thousand. One of our AV programs, The Longest Winter, a story of the ill fated Donner Party has been shown eight to ten times a day for the last sixteen years at Donner Memorial State Park in California.

Take some time, enjoy your journey through our Web Pages and come back often. We will be adding and changing pictures at various times for your enjoyment.
